My line infantry brigade is nearing completion... I know I am not visiting the club anywhere as near as I'd like too, but these days will come.

And 2015 will be the occasion, I'm sure, to re-fight some bloody 1815 battles (Ligny, Quatre-Bras, Waterloo). So what to paint next? It's ambitious, but I've settled for a big heavy cavalry force. Not so useful for the everyday wargaming (small-ish battles), however it should be motivating to paint up, and also very impressive if I achieve my goal! Perry Miniatures also offer a nice variety of poses and even generals wearing the cuirasse.

I'm aiming for the 13th Division of Cavalry, composed of 4 regiments of cuirassiers... 11 squadrons in total, and I'd represent them all 6-strong. Add a few command stands, that's a good 70 horses.

So Perry Miniatures it will be, the metal ones (rather than plastic). I've ordered the first 12 and painted a test miniature. It's much easier to paint than hussars! I need to post a couple of photos soon.

The only downside I've discovered so far is the amount of work to prepare the miniatures. Significant flash requires removal, sabers are bent (of course), but so are the horses legs, which is a lot more hassle to fix!

I'll try to give updates of my work here, as to help myself go trough this piece of work. 11 months to go... it may be doable!

Here's for the uniforms of the 1st regiment of cuirassiers:

Interestingly, the 4 regiments that make up the division all have different distinctive colours. One good reason why to pick this very division.

The uniform is valid for 1812-1815, however flags are slightly different in 1815...

I can see I am going to runout of superlatives with this.

Great start.

For the uniform guides:

http://centjours.mont-saint-jean.com/

it's in French but covers all uniforms of all armies during the Waterloo campaign.

Work has resumed on this project after a quiet summer... so here's a quick update from the workbench last week:

The 1st cuirassier regiment will be 24-strong. I've just ordered the missing 12.

some updates on my new-ish blog - with the 1st cuirassier sort of done.

that's the biggest unit in the division done. Going from the biggest to the smallest unit will hopefully help my motivation going!

now time to paint a General for the Brigade! I won't have a division done by June, but at least I'll have a Brigade...
